NEWS:

Energy: The State of New Jersey has released its final energy masterplan. The GLBC attended the stakeholder hearings and raised some significant concerns that will affect our ability to move forward as a sustainable State such as trying to classify Nuclear and Gas as 'clean' energy. We are happy to report some of our comments were echoed by others and caused modifications to the masterplan. However, we remain concerned that the message of the masterplan is overly supportive of more conventional fossil fuel sources such as gas and coal as well as those with a known unmanageable waste stream such as nuclear. At the same time the plan appears to be attempting to downplay the role of solar, wind, biomass, and most importantly the research and development needed to make those technologies most viable by developing appropriate storage and smart grid technologies to deal with the intermittence issue plaguing these promising technologies.
